The vision behind the name
Exodus 13:21-22
‘GOD went ahead of them in a Pillar of Cloud during the day to guide them on the way, and at night in a Pillar of Fire to give them light; thus they could travel both day and night. 22 The Pillar of Cloud by day and the Pillar of Fire by night never left the people.’
Perhaps one of the most spectacular and sustained miracles of the Israelite’s wanderings in the wilderness was the continuous presence of 'The Pillar of Cloud by day and the Pillar of Fire by night'
God promises that Israel will again experience this in the times of their restoration.
Isaiah 4:5 Then GOD will bring back the ancient cloud by day and the by night and mark Mount Zion and everyone in it with his glorious presence, his immense, protective presence, 6 shade from the burning sun and shelter from the driving rain.
In Nehemiah we are told that the Pillars were to give direction and lead them in the right way and to protect them. The manifest presence of God led them through the wilderness in much the same way that the Holy Spirit will lead God’s people now as they yield to Him.
Back in the early nineties God gave me a spiritual vision of Pillars standing in a blazing Fire. The flames reflected the flames of the fire around them so that they were almost indistinguishable from the Fire itself. The vision was repeated some short time later and the Holy Spirit showed me that the fire was the intense fire of 24 hours a day worship and intercession.
Many of the values of Pillars of Fire Trust are encapsulated in that vision.
1. Firstly the value of the overshadowing guiding presence of the Holy Spirit.
2. Secondly pillars speak of ‘those who are ‘pillars in the church’, those who stand in the evil day.
3. Flames speak of both revival and judgement.
4. Fourthly the whole vision speaks of 24 hours a day worship and intercession.
5. Fifthly the context points to the place of Israel in the end times.
These five open up and give the beginnings of the purpose of Pillars of Fire Trust
